MASON CITY – Everyone is invited to participate in a donation drive to benefit the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank and North Iowa Human Society on November 7 in Mason City. Cranksgiving is a nation-wide charitable event with a fun twist – participants are sent on a bicycle scavenger hunt for donation items in a race against other teams for prizes. This year Mason City’s Cranksgiving is hosted by the Mason City Jaycees. Teams (or individuals) will meet at Lorado’s (18 S Federal Ave) the morning of the ride and receive a grocery list with specific items at participating stores. Each team will then figure out the route they think is best and plan their strategy before setting out together at the starting bell. Participants should bring a bike, a lock, bag for food, and approximately $15-$20 to purchase the donation items.
Registration starts at 10 a.m. and the bike ride starts at exactly 11 a.m. The expected finish time is between noon and 1 p.m., after which a party (with chili and drink specials) and awards ceremony will be held at Lorado’s.
The first thirty riders to arrive for registration will receive a limited edition Cranksgiving t-shirt.
For more information, please see the events section of the Mason City Jaycees Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/masoncityjaycees).
There is no rain date. The event will take place rain, snow, or shine.
