SPENCER – Iowa Lakes topped NIACC 3-2 in overtime in the first round NJCAA Region XI match Wednesday night.
Renato Silva scored the golden goal for Iowa Lakes at the 6:27 mark in overtime to lift the Lakers into the regional semifinals.
Jack Hurley tied the contest with a goal for the Trojans at the 22:17 mark in the second half. Iowa Lakes took a 2-1 lead with 26:28 mark in the second half on a goal from Gustavo Nasciemento.
NIACC tied the contest about four minutes later on Hurley’s goal.
NIACC and Iowa Lakes were tied 1-1 at the half in their fion a snowy, chilly and windy night at the Spencer Soccer Complex.
Iowa Lakes was given two red cards at the 16:16 mark in the first half. So the Lakers are forced to play the rest of the match two players down.
Iowa Lakes took a 1-0 lead with 30:29 in the first half on a goal from Saikou Jallow.
NIACC tied the match with 2:16 to play in the first half on a goal from Khaliyl Hanson.
Iowa Lakes plays Iowa Western in the semifinal round on Saturday in Des Moines. Iowa Western topped Scott CC 4-0 in its first-round match on Wednesday.
