Two Mason City school district students to be honored

mason-city-schools-admin-bldg-spring-2012IOWA CITY – Two Mason City students and their teachers were honored at an event recently held in Iowa City.

Grant Bohls of Mason City and a student at Lincoln Intermediate and Jacob Frieden of Mason City and a student at Mason City High School were among the 500 students from Iowa and throughout the nation who were recently invited to be honored at The University of Iowa Belin-Blank Center’s Recognition Ceremony. Additionally, recognized students were given the opportunity to honour a teacher they credited for having a profound influence on their lives. Grant Bohls selected Linda Zillig of Mason City and Jacob Frieden selected Dennis Knights of Iowa Falls.

The ceremony was held Sunday, October 11, 2015, at the Iowa Memorial Union on the University of Iowa campus.

Students were invited to be recognized by the Center for exceptional performance in the Belin-Blank Center student talent search.

Addressing the students, teachers and guests were The University of Iowa Provost Barry Butler, Dean Nicholas Colangelo from the College of Education, and U.S. Congressman Dave Loebsack. Dean Sarah Gardial from Tippie College of Business, delivered the keynote address to teachers and Mr. Julius Carter, student in the College of Law, delivered the keynote address to the students.

The Belin-Blank Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development is an international full-service gifted education center at the University of Iowa’s College of Education.
