NIACC volleyball team tops DCTC, 3-2

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – The NIACC volleyball team topped Dakota County Technical College 3-2 Saturday afternoon in a nonconference match in teh NIACC gym.

NIACC (11-13 overall) won 25-21, 23-25, 18-25, 25-19, 15-7.

Sophomore Karlie Niedert led the Lady Trojans with a career-high 17 kills and four blocks. The Lady Trojans received 22 assists and seven digs from freshman Hailey Winter.

Niedert’s previous career high in kills was 11, twice.

“We started a little slow again but in the end was able to pull together for the win,” NIACC coach Chris Brandt said. “We struggled against the strong defense of DCTC and need to work on finding the holes for those types of teams.

“Offensively, we are doing a nice job keeping our errors to a minimum and that is helping to achieve a good team hitting efficiency.”

Also for NIACC Saturday, Kaylee Whittington had 12 kills and 17 digs, Aubury Coleman had six kills and seven digs, Jackie Bleifus had 13 assists, six digs and four kills and two ace serves, Amber Carter had eight digs, Zoe Schneider had eight digs and Liv Block had 19 digs.

NIACC returns to action at 7 p.m. Wednesday at home against Northeast Community College in an ICCAC contest.
