Mason City drunk driver violates probation, sent to jail for a week

MASON CITY – A Mason City woman who was arrested for drunk driving and interference with an officer and got a deferred judgement has been found guilty of violating her probation in that case after a second drunk driving arrest in a neighboring county.

Stacey Ann Pietig, age 19, was pulled over by a Cerro Gordo deputy on October 31, 2014 just before 1:00 AM near the 2000 block of 12th Street NE. The investigating deputy determined that Pietig was intoxicated, and during the stop she attempted to interfere with him. She was charged with first offense operating while intoxicated, interference with official acts and unsafe approach to vehicles. An un-named passenger in the car was arrested for an open container of alcohol.

Pietig initially entered not guilty pleas and hired Joel Yunek for legal representation. In January, however, Pietig and her lawyer were able to secure a deferred judgment for the drunk driving charge and a dismissal of the interference charge. She was placed on probation for one year and ordered to pay $1,475.00 in fines and court fees.

However, Pietig found herself in more trouble after she was stopped on June 1 by Osage police for drunk driving and charged with second offense operating while intoxicated and driving with a revoked license. She again pled not guilty and now awaits a September 30 trial.

Additionally, the second drunk driving arrest is a violation of her probation from her deferred judgement on the first drunk driving case. Pietig was found guilty on August 12 and sent to jail for 7 days; she is now serving that sentence.
