MASON CITY – In what could have been a tragic situation, a Mason City man has been arrested for a second time in 5 days for drunk driving, this time after he tried to pass a police car on a two-lane residential street.
A Mason City police squad car was northbound on Kentucky Avenue Saturday night at about 8:45 PM when, allegedly, 35-year-old Jeffrey James Trask of Mason City attempted to pass the officer on the right side of the sqaud car, just before 12th Street intersection. Trask’s 2000 Bonneville – which had its lights off – made contact with the squad car.
The Mason City police officer then conducted a traffic stop by turning on his lights, and Trask did pull over. The officer determined that Trask was intoxicated and placed him under arrest on a charge of second offense operating while intoxicated.
Trask was arrested just days ago, on the evening of August 3. A Cerro Gordo deputy witnessed Trask drive the same Bonneville into a ditch at Eisenhower Avenue and 12th Street. He was charged in that incident with first offense operating while intoxicated and failure to maintain control..
