MASON CITY – A Minnesota man approached a woman as she was getting out of her van in the Mason City Walmart parking lot Friday afternoon and grabbed her, before being chased into the store and later arrested.
According to Mason City police, at about 1 PM Friday afternoon at Walmart on the city’s west side, officers responded to a distress call. Reportedly, a male suspect, 32-year-old Juan Jose Zamarripa of Faribault, Minnesota, approached a woman in the parking lot who was exiting her van. Zamarripa allegedly grabbed her arms and attempted to pull her from the van. A citizen witnessed the incident and confronted Zamarripa as this was happening, and Zamarripa ran into the Walmart store.
Police said the female victim was not injured in the assault. Officers entered the Walmart store and found Zamarripa. He resisted arrest but was soon taken into custody.
Zamarripa was charged with felony second degree robbery and interference with official acts. He is beingheld int he county jail.
