Former Des Moines cop who kicked restrained man – breaking his nose and knocking out two teeth – sent to prison for 5 years

DES MOINES – A former Des Moines police officer who brutally kicked a restrained man in the face, breaking his nose and knocking out two teeth, was sentenced to over 5 years in prison for his deed.

Former Des Moines, Iowa, Police Department Officer Colin J. Boone, age 39, now of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was sentenced last week by U.S. District Court Judge Robert W. Pratt of the Southern District of Iowa to serve 63 months in federal prison for using unreasonable force during a 2013 arrest.

This case arose from Boone’s use of excessive force against Orville Hill during Hill’s arrest on Feb. 19, 2013. During the incident, Boone arrived at a scene where three fellow Des Moines police officers were holding Hill on the ground and a fourth officer was standing over the group. Boone ran up to the group and kicked Hill in the face, knocking out two of Hill’s teeth and breaking his nose. Other officers reported Boone’s conduct to supervisors after learning that Boone had submitted a written report in which he failed to account truthfully for his actions. A charge of falsifying records brough an acquittal. Boone was fired a few months later in 2013.

On March 13, 2015, a jury found Boone guilty of violating Hill’s civil rights by using unreasonable force.

“As this sentences makes clear, there are serious consequences when law enforcement officers betray the trust of their community by violating the rights of individuals,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Gupta. “The Department of Justice stands ready to hold accountable those who violate the civil rights laws.”

This investigation was conducted by the FBI, and was prosecuted by Deputy Chief Bobbi Bernstein of the Civil Rights Division and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kelly Mahoney of the Southern District of Iowa.

Seems to me there ought to be a whole slew of charges brought against this officer, not just for violating his civil rights… What could possibly have possessed this officer after uundoubtedly seeing that man was restrained and just waddling up and kicking him in the face…? And why didn’t the other officers do anything that night? This ‘officer’ should not be allowed to keep his badge- period!

Maybe he’ll work off some of the donuts in prision!

To bad it wasn’t Phillo.

One down, thousands to go.

Bad boy, Bad boy, what ya gonna do….
