Waterloo cops arrest suspect with .380 semi-auto handgun after chase

WATERLOO – Law enforcement in Waterloo approached a group of people loitering in front of of a troubled house, leading to a foot chase and arrest of a man with a gun.

On April 17, 2015 at approximately 9:30 PM, officers with the Waterloo Police Department’s Patrol Division and Violent Crime Apprehension Team approached a group of subjects loitering in front of 520 Elm Street reference a weapons investigation. This residence has been the subject of multiple shooting and weapons investigations. Upon making contact, twenty-year-old William Rashad Burt ran into the residence of 520 Elm Street and slammed the door on Officers after being told to stop while twenty-one-year-old Kristopher Darquel Spates Jr. fled on foot down the street.

Officers pursued Spates and took him into custody a short time later. Officers located a .380 Semi-auto handgun Spates had discarded while fleeing from Officers. Spates was charged with a felony for interference with official acts involving a firearm in addition to carrying weapons. Burt was ordered out of the residence and he was taken into custody for interference with official acts. Forty-year-old Selina White was arrested for failure to disperse and interference with official acts and a juvenivle was taken into custody for a juvenile pick-up order during the incident. The suspects were booked into the Black Hawk County Jail.
