CLEAR LAKE – Score another big economic win for Clear Lake.
Clear Lake City Administrator Scott Flory described to NorthIowaToday.com a new, $10 million truck stop development that will break ground on the city’s east side next month:
“City officials have been working with Company representatives for about a year now on the development project. This will be one of the largest and most sophisticated Kwik Star/Trip Truck Center and Convenience Marts the Company has built. They have over 450 stores in WI, MN, and IA and have over 12,000 employees company-wide. The estimated cost of the Clear Lane development will be near $10 million. The City and Company are working on a development agreement for the reconstruction of the intersection of HWY 122 E and N 32nd St./Willow Creek Ct. This will also entail a placement of a new traffic signal. The estimated cost of the intersection improvements are estimated at $700,000. The city would contribute up to $250,000 towards the cost of the traffic signal. That would be paid for by the new taxes generated from the development project. The anticipated schedule is to break ground in May and be completed by November.”
I heard Kwik star was thinking of coming to mason but their corporate headquarters
refused to lower employee wages to the $9.00/hr mason city standard..

I heard from an employee that they were going to purchase the Rose Bowl site.
I believe that is in the works, yes. Councilman Alex Kuhn told me Friday night that there is speculation that a convenience store is going in where the Rose Bowl now sits, but no building permits have been sought yet.
I believe this is on the S side of the road where the prefab houses sat, across from the former Andrews Concrete plant. Truck traffic will be a pain, but at least it will be away from the horrendous Fieldstone/McDonald’s entrance, which is a mess on weekends and all summer as it is.
@Katie-They own the property on the other side of the highway where the old truck stop was. At one time they were going to build there but I believe access was a problem.

you are not correct with this one, last year they bought the property next to the new Prichards building. They never bought anything on the north side of the highway.
