MASON CITY – The NIACC women’s track and field team is ranked eighth this week in the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association poll.
At last weekend’s Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines, NIACC sophomore Rellie Kaputin won the university/college long jump with a school record leap of 5.91 meter (19 feet, 4 ¾ inches). Kaputin also placed third in the triple jump with a school record leap of 12.23 meters.
Also, sophomore Hannah Palmeter set a school record in the 1,500-meter run (4 minutes, 37.32 seconds) and placed eighth and sophomore Sharon Toako was third in the javelin (39.38 meters).
South Plains is ranked No. 1 in the women’s poll. Iowa Central is ranked second and Iowa Western is ranked sixth.
The NIACC men’s and women’s track teams return to action Saturday at the University of Dubuque Invitational.
