MOUNT VERNON – NIACC freshman Trey Simons won the 1,500-meter run at the Cornell College Invitational Saturday in a school record time of 4:00.85.
The NIACC men placed fourth out of six teams with 90 points.
Simons broke the old school record of 4:02.09 by Jimmy Lanik on April 29, 2006.
Also for the NIACC men, Taylor Nelson won the 400 hurdles in 59.75 and was second in the 110 hurdles (16.63). Oryiane Espeut was second in the 800 (1:59.34) and John Enright was third in the 800 in 1:59.85.
For the NIACC women, sophomore Hannah Palmeter won the 800 (2:19.30) and the 1,500 (4:51.31). Jessica Kingston won the 400 hurdles (1:08.48).
Kalama Towarap was third in the 800 in 2:29.99.
The NIACC men and women return to action April 10-11 at the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
