Charles City man facing two drunk driving charges arrested for domestic abuse

CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man already facing his second drunk driving charge since December 28 was arrested this week for domestic abuse assault.

Charles City police arrested 42-year-old Herbert Hoover Hodge Jr. on March 23 domestic abuse assault on March 23 at about 9:43 PM near Clark and Brantingham streets. He was taken to the county jail and remains there as he awaits a preliminary hearing on April 3.

Hodge is already facing two drunk driving charges from arrests on December 28, 2014 and March 8, 2015.

Charles City police conducted a traffic stop on March 8 at about 1:15 AM near Clark Street and St. Mary’s Street. Police discovered 42-year-old Herbert Hoover Hodge Jr. behind the wheel, an unlicensed driver, who was determined to be intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with first offense operating while intoxicated, no insurance and driving while license revoked. He was released from jail the same day as he awaits a March 27 preliminary hearing.

On December 28, officers with the Charles City police department conducted traffic stop at the 1200 block of South Grand Avenue. During the traffic stop, officers determined that the driver, Hodge Jr., was an unlicensed driver, was intoxicated and that he possessed an open container of alcohol. He was arrested that day, as well, and charged with first offense operating while intoxicated. He later entered a guilty plea but has not yet been sentenced.
