Basketball: Iowa women advance to first Sweet 16 since 1996

logo_iowa_hawkeyesIOWA CITY – The Iowa women’s basketball team beat the Miami Hurricanes 88-70 Sunday to advance to the Sweet 16.

Iowa was led by Bethany Doolittle with 22 points in the home-court win. Iowa advances to its sixth Sweet 16 in program history, and first since 1996.

Iowa is 26-7 overall, and 18-0 at home (a program record).

The Hawkeyes own a 13-6 record this season against the 64-team NCAA Tournament field.

This marks Iowa’s 24th trip to the NCAA Tournament, including its eighth in a row. Iowa is 21-23 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. The Hawkeyes have advanced to the Sweet 16 six times, the Elite 8 three times, and also played in the 1993 Final Four.
