DAVENPORT – An Iowa man died after a teen ran him over as he walked down the middle of a road.
According to Davenport, Iowa police, on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 9:41 PM, Davenport Police, Fire, and Medic EMS responded to a pedestrian vs. vehicle crash in the 800 block of Waverly Road. The crash involved a male pedestrian identified as 60-year-old Steven Whiteside of Davenport, who police say was walking south in the middle of the roadway. He was struck by a north bound passenger car.
Mr. Whiteside was taken via ambulance to Genesis East Medical Center and was later transferred to Iowa City Hospitals via Med Force Air-Ambulance where his condition was considered critical/life threatening. The driver of the passenger car, identified as 19-year-old Athena Sheehan of Davenport, was taken to an area hospital for evaluation and released with no injuries.
The Davenport Police Department was contacted by the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office and informed Mr. Whiteside passed away around midnight Sunday March 15, 2015. His death is attributed to injuries sustained in the crash on March 10th and since the cause of death is known, there is no post mortem exam being scheduled.
No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by the Davenport Police Crash Investigation Unit.
This is a hard one to pass judgement on by reading the story. It was 9:41 PM, dark, was the guy wearing bright clothing?
On a related issue, I have called the MC Police twice about a guy that wears dark clothes and rides his bike down the southbound lane heading north on Pierce every morning at 6:15 AM. He has no lights or reflectors on his bike, I meet him every day. You can’t see him until you meet him. He is going to get hit some time I am afraid.
@John-Yep, then it will be your fault the guy is stupid and you hit him. My wife drives down that road about that time and she would hit him for sure.
