SOLDIER, IOWA – Authorities believe they have found the body of an Iowa man who went missing last year as he tried to rescue his dog on a frozen lake.
According to the Monona County Sheriff’s Office, a man’s body was recovered from a lake in that county on Saturday. The deceased is believed to be 66-year-old Walter Ordway, who went to the lake in November with his dog. It is believed the dog fell through the ice and Ordway went out to save it before falling in, himself.
The Des Moines Register described Ordway – known as an artist – as “an eccentric rural Iowan and somewhat of a visionary who cultivated a far-flung, ad-hoc family.”
