RURAL MASON CITY – Law enforcement discovered a man passed out in a ditch right outside the county jail, and proceeded to take him there.
A Cerro Gordo deputy was called to perform a welfare check on a man who was passed out in a ditch at the corner of Lark Avenue and 265th Street, a very short distance from the county law enforcement center. Upon arrival, the deputy discovered 51-year-old Theodore Albert Schumacher of Milford, Iowa.
Schumacher was arrested on a charge of public intoxication and taken to the county jail.
Schumacher had been arrested all the way back in 2012 in Cero Gordo county for drunk driving and had failed to appear in court until his lawyer, Timothy Lapointe, appeared for him in February of 2014. Lapointe withdrew, and Schumacher was finally arrested months later by Clear Lake police in February of this year. He was appointed a public defender. On February 25, 2015, Schumacher pleaded guilty to the charge of operating while intoxicated. He was given 30 days in jail and ordered to pay $1,837.50 in fines and court costs.
