Marine killed after civilian aircraft crash

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION YUMA, Arizona — A T-59 Hawk, civilian aircraft, crashed at approximately 11:45 a.m. on a MCAS Yuma runway today.

The aircraft crash impacted a government vehicle, resulting in a Marine fatality. The Marine was pronounced dead upon arrival at Yuma Regional Medical Center. The name of the Marine will not be released until 24 hours after next of kin notification.

“Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the Marine we lost in this tragic accident,” stated MCAS Yuma Commanding Officer, Colonel Ricardo Martinez.

“We, at MCAS Yuma, stand ready to provide support to his family.”

The pilot and passenger of the aircraft were examined and released by MCAS Yuma emergency services personnel.
