Three UNI Panthers vying for MAC wrestling title

logo_uni_panthersCOLUMBIA, Mo. – Three Panthers are in the hunt for a Mid-American Conference wrestling title and four have secured a spot in the national tournament Saturday.

No. 5 Dylan Peters at 125 pounds, No. 12 Cooper Moore at 165 pounds and heavyweight No. 9 Blaize Cabell will be wrestling for a MAC title Sunday. Basil Minto will compete for a shot at third place, but has secured a spot at the NCAA tournament.

In hunt for third place:

141 – Jake Hodges
157 – Jarrett Jensen
184 – Cody Caldwell
197 – Basil Minto

The Panthers started the first round with falls from Peters, Jake Hodges (141 pounds) and No. 25 Jensen. Cabell earned a major decision. Caldwell added another major decision in the consolation round.

The Panthers wrap up the MAC tourney Sunday, March 8, 2015. Starting at noon, the consolation semifinalists will compete on three mats. The championship finals will start at 1:20 p.m. and decide the top six place-winners.
