Mason City sex offender arrested at homeless shelter after disturbance

MASON CITY – Police took a Mason city man to jail after a disturbance at a homeless shelter.

Police were called to the Northern Lights Homeless Shelter for men, 307 North Monroe Avenue, Sunday afternoon just before 2 PM to investigate a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers and a police investigator encountered 51-year-old James E. Destival, no known address, who was allegedly intoxicated.

Destival was arrested and taken to jail on a charge of public intoxication. He is a convicted sex offender. He was convicted in 2001 in Winnebago county on a charge of indecent contact with a female child 13 years of age or younger.
