Auto collision injures three Iowans

INDEPENDENCE, IA – A nearly-head-on collision in Buchanan county injured three and is under investigation.

According to the Buchanan county sheriff’s office, on Friday, March 06, 2015 at approximately 7:00 PM, the a 911 report was called in, describing a motor vehicle accident in the 2700 blk Jamestown Avenue (Hwy 150) south of Independence, Iowa.

According to the ensuing investigation, a northbound 1994 Ford Tempo operated by Jolene Peck of Vinton and a southbound 2011 Ford F150 operated by Jessica Chesmore of Independence collided nearly head-on. Peck, Chesmore and a passenger in Chesmore’s vehicle, Charles Conklin of Independence, were all transported to Buchanan County Health Center in Independence with injuries. Peck was later transferred by air ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City with serious injuries.

Hwy 150 was closed for over an hour while the accident scene was cleaned up. The cause of the accident remains under investigation and charges are pending. The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Independence Fire Department and Area Ambulance Service.
