MC woman guilty in hit-and-run incident skips court and is jailed

MASON CITY – A Mason City woman found guilty in 2012 of leaving the scene of an accident that caused a person to be injured failed to show up in court Monday and has been jailed for a month.

Autumn L. King, age 30, was to appear in court Monday morning on a contempt of court charge connected to a previous conviction in a hit-and-run case. King was involved in an accident on August 13th, 2011 in Mason City at North Adams and 5th Street. NW. It was reported that a passerby heard a woman screaming at that location after a car crash, and an ambulance was called.  That person said that the woman had been hit by a black SUV allegedly driven by Autumn King, who was found guilty on July 25th, 2012 by a jury of her peers of leaving the scene of an accident with an injury involved, a serious misdemeanor.

King was jailed for a month previously for that crime, and ordered to pay $14,039.20 in fines, fees, cots and restitution. Records show she has paid just $772.74 on that balance.

King was picked up on the arrest warrant Tuesday, March 3, when she showed up at the Cerro Gordo Courthouse. She must now serve 30 days in jail for contempt of court.

King has a long rap sheet, including multiple charges of disturbing the peace, alcohol violations, multiple theft charges, multiple charges of possession of illegal substances, lying to law enforcement (dismissed), at least one parole violation after a conviction of class D felony forgery for which she served time in prison (still owes the court $1220.69 in that case, from 2005) and a conviction for class D felony intimidation with a dangerous weapon and five counts of unauthorized use of a credit card for which she still owes the court $1,148.20 (found guilty on one count).
