North Iowa faces more snow, sleet, wind, possibly icy roads

snow-shovel-in-snowMASON CITY – All of Iowa faces potentially hazardous winter weather over the next 48 hours, while Southern Minnesota is under a blizzard warning.

According to the National Weather Service, Western Iowa from Waterloo to Sioux City faces a hazardous weather outlook for a storm that will bring moderate snow to the north half of the state and sleet to the south. Windy conditions with blowing and drifting snow are possible. Due to the prediction for measurable snow, the Alternate Side Parking Ordinance and Emergency Snow Route will go into effect in Mason City at 7 PM this evening.

Farther east, from Floyd county to the Mississippi River, light rain will bring a ice glaze to roadways in the northern half of the state. Travel may be difficult.

In Southern Minnesota, heavy snow and very cold temps along with strong winds will bring blizzard-like conditions through at least Tuesday.
