MASON CITY – The Lime Creek Nature Center announced today that it is bringing renowned explorers Dave and Amy Freeman to Mason City.

Since 2001 the Freeman’s have traveled over 30,000 miles by kayak, canoe and dogsled through some of the world’s wildest places, from the Amazon to the Arctic. National Geographic named them “Adventurers of the Year” in 2014!

The Freeman’s will be presenting a public program at Music Man Square in Mason City on Monday, March 23 at 7 p.m. This program is funded by the Lime Creek Nature Center’s Dorothy Curtis Trust Fund, allowing free admission for the public. Registration and tickets are required – please call 641-423-5309 to register and request tickets. Tickets are available on a first-come first serve basis until they are gone. A “meet and greet” with the Freeman’s will be held prior to the program beginning at 6 p.m.

The Freeman’s are memorable speakers and skilled educators who use their wilderness journeys to inspire, educate and entertain a diverse range of audiences. They also run the Wilderness Classroom, an educational nonprofit organization that introduces kids to wild places and unique cultures. They actively engage thousands of elementary and middle school students in their expeditions using the Internet and live school programs. On their expedition “The North American Odyssey” they actively engaged over 85,000 students through www.wildernessclassroom.org and Dave and Amy worked directly with over 25,000 students during school assemblies.

This past fall they paddled and sailed 2,000 miles from the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) to Washington DC to promote the protection of this special wilderness area.

When not on expeditions or speaking tours, they guide canoe, kayak and dogsled trips near their home on the edge of the BWCAW in Northern Minnesota.

On Tuesday, March 24, the Freeman’s will be presenting assemblies to 7th & 8th grade students at Newman and John Adams Middle School. These presentations are also funded by the Lime Creek Nature Center’s Dorothy Curtis Trust.
