WEST UNION, IOWA – Kids can get in trouble with the law for sending obscene materials, even amongst themselves, as some students in Iowa are finding out.
After a three week investigation, the Fayette County, Iowa Sheriff’s Office along with the West Union Police and the North Fayette Valley School district discovered that a minor student was found to have sent some obscene materials to another minor. Through the investigation, it was also discovered that the minor whom they sent the materials to then distributed it to other minors. Once the school district discovered the incident, they contacted law enforcement.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office filed charges on February 9 with Juvenile Court Services alleging that on January 15, the minor student disseminated obscene materials to other minors from their home. This is a serious misdemeanor crime under Iowa Code 728.2. West Union Police announced they will be filing charges on several others students who also disseminated the obscene material to other minors once their investigation is completed.
The names of the minor suspects will not be published.
