Body found behind grocery store could be that of man missing for over 2 years

investigateBURLINGTON – A body found earlier this year behind a grocery store appears to be that of a man missing for over two years, Iowa investigators said today.

On September 16, 2012, the Burlington Police Department received a missing person report from the family of Alfredo P. Rodriguez. During the past 2 and a half years, detectives have been following leads into his disappearance. On January 22, 2015, the Burlington Police Department was notified that a body had been discovered in a wooded area behind the Hy-Vee store on Agency Street in Burlington.

The body, which had been reduced to skeletal remains, was transferred to Ankeny, Iowa, for an autopsy performed by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner. Autopsy results indicate that the remains are able to be tentatively identified as Alfredo Rodriguez. Investigators have found personal items belonging to Rodriguez within the clothing that was found on the body. At this time, the cause of death is undetermined.

Further forensic and anthropological examinations will take place in an effort to reach a conclusion in this case. Anyone with information relating to the disappearance of Alfredo Rodriguez is encouraged to contact the Burlington Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division.

The Burlington Police have been assisted in this investigation by the Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner (IOSME). This investigation is ongoing.
