Two hospitalized after accident south of Clear Lake

cited-police-featured1CLEAR LAKE – An unlicensed driver from Hampton caused a two-car accident south of Clear Lake Tuesday that sent two to Mercy Hospital.

On February 3 at about 3:05 PM, deputies with the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two vehicle accident with two injured at 210th Street and Grouse Avenue south of Clear Lake.

Debra Helm, age 56 of Thornton, was southbound on Grouse Avenue driving a 2001 Ford Expedition when an eastbound 2006 Jeep Commander driven by 29-year-old Carlos Reyes of Hampton failed to stop at the stop sign at that intersection. Helm’s vehicle rolled into the southeast ditch at the intersection.

Helm and 16-year-old Claire Thomas of Thornton were both transported by Mason City fire medics to Mercy Hospital for evaluation.

Reyes was cited for no driver’s license and failure to stop at a stop sign.

The accident remains under investigation.
