MINNEAPOLIS – A woman was found nearly frozen to death today in Minneapolis and police took matters into their own hands and transported her to a hospital, where they were told they saved her life.
On January 1, 2015 Officers from MPD 5th Precinct responded to the area of Lyndale and 28th Street on a report of one down. They were advised that an ambulance was responding with an unknown estimated time of arrival. Upon arrival they found a female who was unconscious wearing only a tee shirt and jeans. Officers checked her responsiveness and found that she was rigid and very likely near death.
Officers grabbed a blanket and wrapped her up. In checking with dispatch, they were advised that an ambulance was still quite delayed due to other calls. Officers realizing how grave of a situation this truly was, they took the unusual step of transporting her to the hospital in their squad.
At the hospital they learned that had they not treated the woman as they did, and transported her, she very likely would have died before the ambulance arrived.
