MASON CITY – A sex offender who was fresh out of the big house was taken to jail late Tuesday night after he was kicking doors at the hotel he was staying at.
James Edward Destival, age 51, was paroled from prison on December 1, records show. He is a convicted sex offender who victimized a child 13 years of age or younger in Winnebago county, and has been charged with numerous felonies. In an attempt to assimilate himself back into society, Destival came to Mason City to live at the America’s Best Inn and the Beje Clark halfway house after his incarceration ended.
On the evening of December 29, police were called after Destival left his room at the hotel and ventured out onto the walkway outside the doors to other rooms and began kicking doors. Police arrived just before midnight and arrested Destival for disturbing the peace. He was soon released from jail on his own recognizance and has a court date set for January.
The next day, a warrant for Destival’s arrest was issued by a judge for parole violations. He appears to be free at this time and does not appear in the jail population. Festival has been known in the past to carry dangerous weapons.
