MASON CITY – NIT reported 10 days ago that the city had completed negotiations with Lionel Foster in his lawsuit that alleged age and race discrimination as well as retaliation. The payout on that lawsuit will be $240,000, it was revealed today.
Those negotiations were completed earlier this month in Des Moines. The city’s insurance company signed off on the deal after city officials relented and agreed to settle rather than face a humiliating ordeal in court where much dirty laundry may well have been aired.
City officials have refused to comment to NIT about the settlement despite a number of attempts to reach them.
Lionel Foster did tell NIT that he never wanted to stop working and his since completed a college degree course at Kaplan University. He is now seeking employment, and says has a number of options.
In truth the city and big business won = They basically crippled the HRC and the tax payers paid for this corruption.
Any way you look at this it spells corruption and waste of money. Government hands out money like thi and it is obscene. What is the true value of these people? What are they really doing to justify garnering so much money…be it from a salary or a settlement? It’s all part of an inherently flawed system. I’m back to designing a ne city on the computer, and soliciting for members via WWW. Something better can be constructed with better safeguards against corruption
More than anything I think I take issue with the use of the title “Human Rights”. They should call it what it is: Black and Latino Oversite Agency, because human rights has a varying degree of definition. For me, human rights would include the right for shelter, water, medical care, to not be drugged, to not be abused, and to speak or write your mind free from censorship. Foster’s definition? Who knows? i’m guessing it mainly had to do with protecting skin color

@FUBAR-there are rules that need to be followed in everything. The mayor and his puppets think they can ignore those rules and do whatever they want. People do have a recourse and that is the courts. I am sure the way the guy operates there are a lot of people looking at what they can get. They will figure out that they don’t want to go to court (no matter what they say). They had the option of telling the insurance company no and fight it in court but were afraid to do it.
People don’t realize that the city is not paying for this, we are. This money will be added to our tax dollars and the insurance rates will go up as well because the insurance company can’t keep up with these losses. We all lose here. Get these deadbeats out of office, if they don’t have a human resource manager to give them advice, they should. This was a very stupid move on the city’s part in the first place without asking for advise. We got what we voted for. Crap and more taxes.
@John-You are absolutely correct. They don’t care because they don’t pay. If the mayor was forced to pay this out of his own pocket he would operate entirely differently.
