DES MOINES – A rally was held Sunday in Des Moines in support of police there.

Organizer Bruce Heilman and about 100 others walked in the downtown area. Many held signs in support of police. The walk was held simply to show police that they have supporters, and to counter some of the anti-police marches that are being held across the nation in the wake of several tragedies that have sparked outrage at some actions by individual police officers.

Des Moines police were thankful for the show of support.

“We want to give a heartfelt thanks to organizer Bruce Heilman and the 100 supporters who showed up for a rally and walk to the Des Moines Police Station,” the agency said in a statement. “It feels good knowing there are so many people like them who are behind law enforcement after many anti-police demonstrations and in the aftermath of the assassination of two NYPD officers. We will always be there for our supporters and the entire community of Des Moines.”

The walk began at the corner of from 10th and Grand Avenue and ended at the Des Moines police station.  Police greeted the walkers along their route.
