Accused thief busted with drugs

MASON CITY – A Mason City man already awaiting trial on at least two separate theft cases was caught with drugs during a traffic stop.

Todd Aaron Howard Hamilton Sutton, Jr., age 23, was stopped by a Cerro Gordo deputy on December 23 just before 9 PM near 5th Street SW and Adams Avenue. He was arrested on an undisclosed drug charge and traffic violations.

Sutton was charged with fifth degree theft after an incident on November 10 at a Mason City business. He is now awaiting a non-jury trial January 9, 2015.

Sutton was charged with fourth degree theft after an incident on November 28. Loss prevention at the Mason City Wal-Mart had Sutton detained at the store and police were called to make the arrest. He is now awaiting an arraignment in that case on January 5, 2015.

He was also convicted of lying to a police officer and driving while barred in 2011 after he was stopped by the Laurens police department in Pocahontas county.

Sutton has displayed violent tendencies. He was convicted of assault causing bodily injury in 2012 as well as assault in 2013 in Buena Vista county.

Some of them somehow claim residency in both states, Iowa and Illinois. Then they get welfare benefits from both. I don’t know how they gey away with it, but they manage to work the system. That, along with the drug sales, they are living pretty good. My neighbor has Illinois plates and has yet to actually stay at the house for more than just a couple of days at a time. I think he just uses the house to do business. When he is there, the street is pretty busy.

They are brought in by the churches and do gooders. The slum lords advertise in Chicago telling them how easy it is to get on welfare in Iowa. Some come to start new lives and that is OK. Others come because they think they are unknown here and can sell their drugs and break our laws without getting caught.

how and why do these people end up landing in Mason City? Is it drugs, or what is it that attracts them here?

@Matt-I agree. Beje Clark is one of the worse things that ever happened to Mason City. There are only two other incidents that I think were worse. One was closing off the center of town so the elite’s could get richer and the other was when our mayor was elected.
