MASON CITY – A Mason City man arrested after punching a wall at his girlfriend’s house was charged with felony second degree burglary but pleaded guilty to a lesser crime this week.
On December 6, Mason City police were sent to the 1100 block of 1st Street SE after it was reported that 28-year-old Dennis Leo Reich was at his girlfriend’s house in violation of a no-contact order, connected to a petition for relief from domestic abuse she had filed for in court. It was reported to police that Reich had punched a hole in the wall above his girlfriend’s head and may have pushed her.
Police arrived, and after an investigation, Reich was arrested. He was charged with violating a no-contact order and burglary in the second degree, a felony.
In a plea deal reached on December 16, Reich pleaded guilty to first offense domestic abuse. He was sentenced to 9 days in jail and ordered to pay $202.00 in costs. Also, the protective order in the case was withdrawn.
Reich has been charged twice before by Mason City police with felony second degree theft. Both times, the charge was dismissed. He also pleaded guilty in October to fighting and disorderly behavior and was ordered to pay $214.50 in fines and fees.
