Osage man found guilty in drunk driving case that claimed life of Charles City man

OSAGE – An Osage man accused of vehicular homicide in a drunk driving case that cost a Charles City man his life has been found guilty by a jury.

A Mitchell county jury returned the guilty verdict on Friday, December 12, against 23-year-old Tylor Patrick. He now awaits sentencing on January 30, 2015. He could face up to 25 years in prison.

On September 20 at about 11:37 PM, Patrick was driving a 1999 Oldsmobile Alero southbound on Hickory Avenue about 1 mile north of Highway 9 in Mitchell county when he lost control of the vehicle and it left the roadway. The vehicle proceeded to roll several times, coming to rest upright in the northbound ditch.

Injured was Patrick, who was taken to Mercy Hospital in Mason City; Clinton Deaton, age 25, of Osage, who was taken to Mercy Hospital; Carissa Dolan, 16, from Texas, who was taken to Mercy Hospital; Aimee Deetz, 24, from Charles City, who was taken to the Mitchel County Hospital; and Caitlin Block, 20, who was taken to the Mitchel County Hospital.

Jesse Wilson, 22, of Charles City, was killed in the accident.

It was later determined after an investigation that Patrick was intoxicated and he was charged with felony B vehicular homicide for driving drunk and causing the accident.

Later, Patrick was charged by Osage police with felony D possession of contraband in a jail and driving with a revoked license. Patrick will face these charges at a January 21, 2015 trial.
