What’s next: The No. 2 NIACC women’s basketball team returns to action Dec. 28 against Cincinnati State Technical and CC in the opening round of the Illinois Central holiday tournament. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
Last time out: The Lady Trojans (9-1 overall) stopped Riverland CC 87-59 on Dec. 10. Freshman Logan Anderson led the Lady Trojans with 27 points, including six 3-point goals, and sophomore Sierra Ford-Washington scored 20 points with 10 rebounds (second career double-double), seven rebounds and four steals.
Among the nation’s best: The Lady Trojans average 85.3 points per game, which ranks fifth among NJCAA Division II teams. They also rank seventh with 95 3-point goals.
Team leaders: Scoring – Sierra Ford-Washington 19.3 ppg. (2nd in ICCAC), Logan Anderson 17.2 ppg. (3rd in ICCAC), Trudy Peterson 12.8 ppg. Rebounds – Diamond Miller 5.9 rpg., Ford-Washington 5.8 rpg., Anna Eckert 5.6 rpg. Assists – Ford-Washington 44 (7th in ICCAC), Alexis Boyd-Lockett 16. Steals – Ford-Washington 37 (1st in ICCAC), Ashleigh Onaca 22 (5th in ICCAC), Eckert 18 (8th in ICCAC). 3-point goals – Anderson 27 (4th in ICCAC), Savannah Lentz 22 (7th in ICCAC), Peterson 12.
History lesson: Morgan Walker led the Lady Trojans in rebounding a year ago with 255, which ranks fifth on NIACC’s single-season rebounding list. The all-time single-season leader is Marla Shuey, who grabbed 389 in the 1974-75 season.

Men’s basketball
What’s next: The NIACC men’s basketball team returns to action Jan. 10 at home against Kirkwood in its ICCAC opener.
Last time out: The Trojans (8-7 overall) dropped a 64-58 decision to Dakota County Technical College on Saturday in the NIACC gym. Sophomore Conor Lang led the Trojans with 15 points.
Century mark: Lang connected on his 100th career 3-point goal in Saturday’s game against DCTC. Lang is the 10th player in NIACC men’s basketball history with 100 3-point goals. Chris Throne (2010-12) ranks ninth on the all-time list with 103 career 3-point goals.
Among the nation’s leaders: Lang has 42 3-point goals this season, which ranks third among NJCAA Division II players. Also the Trojans have 119 3-point goals this season, which is tied for third in NJCAA Division II.
Team leaders: Scoring – Conor Lang 13.7 ppg. (8th in ICCAC), Al Davis 12.6 ppg., Braxton Williams 12.4 ppg. Rebounds – Williams 5.3 rpg., Lang 4.7 rpg., Davis 4.7 rpg. Assists – Davis 71 (2nd in ICCAC), Boy Van Vliet (44 (9th in ICCAC), Williams 30. Steals – Davis 35 (tied for 2nd in ICCAC), Williams 35 (2nd in ICCAC), Lang 15. 3-point goals – Lang 42 (2nd in ICCAC), Mike Udume 18, Van Vliet 17.
History lesson: Paul Bruns is NIACC’s single-season 3-point leader with 97 in the 1994-95 season. Jeremiah White ranks second on the single-season list with 91 in the 1999-2000 season.

Wrestling
What’s next: The No. 6 NIACC wrestling team returns action Jan. 10 at the Central College Open in Pella.
Last time out: Sophomore Yoanse Mejias (157 pounds) and Shiquan Hall (133 pounds) both claimed titles at the Simpson College Invitational on Dec. 6.
The Trojans also received second-place finishes from Paul Mascarenas (125) and Jake Marlin (141 pounds) and third-place finishes from Nosomy Pozo (149 pounds) and Lawrence Phillips (285 pounds). Mascarenas and Marlin wrestled unattached at the Simpson College Invitational.
For the record: Mejias is 19-2 … Pozo is 18-5 … Mascarenas is 14-5 … Hall is 15-5 … Marlin is 9-2.
In the rankings: Mascarenas is ranked 3rd at 125 by the NJCAA Wrestling Coaches Association … Hall is ranked 10th at 133 … Pozo is ranked 1st at 149 and Mejias is ranked first at 157.
History lesson: NIACC’s lone heavyweight national champion was Bob Fouts in 1973.

Indoor track and field
What’s next: The NIACC men’s and women’s track and field teams open the 2015 indoor season at the Minnesota State University alumni meet on Jan. 10 in Mankato, Minn.
A look back at 2014: The NIACC women placed 18th at last year’s NJCAA national indoor meet with 16 points. The NIACC men placed 21st at indoor nationals with seven points.
Top returners: Rellie Kaputin placed fourth in the long jump (18 feet, 9 ¾ inches) at the NJCAA national women’s meet in 2014. Also, Hannah Palmeter placed eighth in the 3,000-meter run at nationals in a time of 10:39.32.
Record-breaking year: The NIACC women’s track team set nine school records in the 2014 indoor track and field season and the men’s team set six indoor school records.
