Hampton city council approves indecent exposure ordinance

Hampton City Hall
Hampton City Hall
HAMPTON – The city of Hampton has pursued new city code to address indecent exposure.

Earlier last week, on December 8, the city council held a work session to look at a draft of an ordinance to deal with public exposure. City Manager Ron Dunt made a presentation to the council. The ordinance is necessary to enforce against individuals who expose themselves to others, Dunt said. Sources tell NIT that there is one individual in particular in Hampton whose activities include using his yard as a bathroom and at times has worn just a coat in his yard, and this situation has spurred the development of this ordinance.

The consensus at the work session was to consider the 1st reading of the ordinance at the next council meeting.

At the December 11 council meeting, Mayor Brook Boehmler introduced and offered the first reading of public exposure ordinance. City Manager Dunt read the ordinance and reviewed the intent in making this addition. The ordinance was approved on first reading unanimously, and will go forward for more consideration.
