Hawkeyes stifle Alcorn State, 67-44

logo_iowa_hawkeyesIOWA CITY – Fran McCaffery’s Iowa Hawkeyes have made defense a staple this season, helping lead them to another victory Tuesday night as they beat Alcorn State 67-44.

Four Hawkeyes scored in double figures. They include: Aaron White (15), Jarrod Uthoff (13), Gabriel Olaseni (12), and Dom Uhl (11, a career high).

“He looked comfortable out there to me and impacted the game in a big way,” Iowa coach Fran McCaffery said of Uhl. “He was attacking the basket off the dribble, making plays for other people. Made some plays for himself.”

Gabriel Olaseni registered 12 points and 10 boards to record his second double-double this season and sixth of his career.

Iowa allowed Alcorn State only 20 points in the first half, in building a 15-point lead. They shot just 32.8% for the game.

Iowa returns to action on Friday when it hosts Iowa State. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:06 p.m. on Mediacom Court at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

“I think the game is always played at an incredibly high intensity level, which you would expect,” McCaffery said of the in-state rivalry game. “The crowd, whether it’s here or there, is really into it. The players are locked in. Intensity level is very high and that’s what I expect on Friday.”
