Simmering dispute over Facebook may have led to fight at rental house

policeMASON CITY – Trouble began brewing at a Mason City rental house days ago over posts made to Facebook, and boiled over days later when an altercation erupted.

Mason City police were called to 318 3rd Street NW on the evening of December 1 to investigate claims of harassment over the social media website Facebook. Police took a report and left the scene.

Police were then called back to the residence on December 4 for a fight between at least two individuals. A male reported he was struck and was suffering from head pain. An ambulance was called, but it hung back until police could arrive and determine whether it was safe to approach. A male subject that was reportedly involved in the fracas was said to belong to the “Savage Law Fight Club” and was known to make threats to kill officers, could be armed, and also had the ability to move cuffs from behind his back to the front.

Officers arrived and separated the persons involved in the dispute. No one was arrested. The ambulance then approached but no one was hospitalized. One male subject left for the evening, and the landlord, Russ Hardy, was contacted and told the disturbance was “verified”.
