MASON CITY – A vacant house in Mason City was damaged by fire Thursday evening.
A caller made an emergency report to 911 Thursday evening around 5:00 PM, saying there appeared to be a fire at 1003 Crestmore Way. Firefighters and police were mobilized to the scene immediately.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw no fire but smoke coming out of the roof. Police came to barricade streets, just as traffic was picking up.
The homeowner’s sister arrived at the scene as well, and confirmed that the house is vacant and the homeowner had passed away.
Firefighters apparently doused a small smoldering fire inside he house and hauled out a stove and some debris before clearing the scene a short time later. There was not yet any word on the exact cause of the fire or the total amount of damage.
They said clothes were left on a stove that was on, kind of sounds a little fishy!! Just how the heck did a stove get left on?? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
