Sidewinder Bar closes

MASON CITY – A Mason City neighborhood bar has closed.

The Sidewinder Bar, 810 South Pennsylvania Avenue, closed in the early morning hours on Sunday, November 30.

“I’m so sad the Sidewinder Bar has come to the End,” a Mason City woman said via social media. She planned to visit the bar later Saturday with friends.

The bar featured a lone pool table, a jukebox, some booth seating along with the traditional bar with bar stools. It was popular with the 30-something crowd and had its share of power-drinkers. You could expect to see a scuffle or two every now and then, but generally, most people got along at the place.

According to sources, the bar’s owner was pursuing other opportunities out of town and wanted the bar shuttered.

Its not that I dislike the bar as Ive pounded many of drinks in that place but the only one that benefited was the owner. It was once a older generation bar but the last few years turned into a place for some very young patrons. Again not a big money maker for the city just the owner. Anyone know why he didn’t sell the place?

I think it was for sale. I heard that the slumlord across the street was renting to a bunch of wanna be thugs from Detroit and their visiting pushed the regulars out?

@Mick-It is happening all over town.

Who gives a rats ass about this place, only person making money was the owner.

Wow FUBAR, I’m not a bar fly but I really don’t understand your comment.
