AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women’s basketball team (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) defeated the Drake Bulldogs (0-2, 0-0 MVC) 84-67 in Hilton Coliseum. Senior Nikki Moody led the Cyclones with a double-double with 18 points and 12 assists. The win was the team’s fifth-straight against Drake, coming on double-digit scoring efforts from Moody, Brynn Williamson, Emily Durr and Jadda Buckley.
Iowa State overcame a slow start in the first two minutes largely in part to a 14-point first-half perfor-mance by Brynn Williamson. The senior drained four 3-pointers and pulled in five rebounds to lead the Cyclones and help grow a sizeable 24-point halftime lead for the Cyclones.
To start the second half, senior Nikki Moody made quick work with six points, three assists and two rebounds in just 4:34 into the second half to grow the ISU lead to 58-31.
The Bulldogs turned to a full-court press and put together an 11-0 run to close the ISU lead to 16, 64-49, with 9:28 left. Despite the press, the Cyclone lead would be too much for the Bulldogs to overcome as Iowa State would hang on to win 84-67.
Rebounding was a priority for the Cyclones as Iowa State outrebounded Drake 47-43. Seanna Johnson paced the Cyclones on the glass, grabbing 12 rebounds.
