Sen. Bernie Sanders to deliver featured address at 2014 Progress Iowa Holiday Party

DES MOINES – Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) will deliver the featured address at the 2014 Progress Iowa Holiday Party on Tuesday, December 16th at 6:00 pm at the Meadows Events and Conference Center in Altoona, Iowa. Sanders is the longest serving independent member of Congress in American history, and will focus his remarks on creating a government that works for all Americans, not just the wealthy and well-off.

“Big majorities of Americans understand that that the middle class is disappearing; unemployment is too high; wealth and income inequality is a threat; that corporate tax loopholes must be closed; that Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid must not be cut; that global warming threatens our planet and that billionaires should not be allowed to buy elections. We should build on that unity,” Sanders said. “Progress Iowa has provided a strong voice in the fight for America’s middle class, and I’m excited to speak with their supporters in December,” Sanders added.

“We’re excited that Senator Sanders will join us and speak at our holiday party,” said Matt Sinovic, executive director of Progress Iowa. “He has been an outspoken advocate on behalf of middle and working class families, and we are excited for him to bring that message to Iowa.”

More than 100 donors, activists, and progressive leaders attended the holiday party in 2013, when the featured address was delivered by Brian Schweitzer, former Governor of Montana. Organizers are expecting a strong turnout for the event on December 16. Tickets to the annual Progress Iowa Holiday Party are $50 each and available at progressiowa.org/holiday2014.
