MASON CITY – A convicted Mason City felon, previously accused of violent crimes such as riot and criminal felony gang activity, was jailed after a probation violation connected to a domestic assault he committed this summer.
Tony Joe Jones, age 26, was brought to jail by Mason City police on November 14 after officers located him in a North End home. A warrant for his arrest had been issued the previous day by a judge for a probation violation in connection to a guilty plea to second offense domestic assault, a crime he committed on July 6, 2014. He remains jailed on $2,000 bond until he sees a judge.
Around midnight on July 6th, a caller reported receiving a message that an individual had been assaulted and needed assistance at 204 8th Street SW. A Mason City police officer located the victim and Jones, who was arrested and charged. On July 11th, Jones plead not guilty, but later accepted a plea deal that resulted in 2 years’ probation, suspended jail of 358 days (he had to serve 7) and a suspended fine.
