Clear Lake man escapes domestic assault charge but is sent to jail anyway

MASON CITY – A Clear Lake man pled guilty to domestic assault and the judge suspended his jail time, but a violation of the no-contact order put him behind bars for a week.

Michael L. Powell, age 33, was arrested by Clear Lake police after a September 15 domestic incident and charged with domestic assault causing injury. On November 7, he pled guilty to disorderly conduct and was placed on probation for a year, given a suspended 1-year jail term and ordered to pay $474.25 in fines and court fees. On November 13, Powell was found guilty of violating the protective order in the case and sent to jail for a week. He is currently serving a portion of that sentence.
