Accused double drunk driver arrested for violating protective order

MASON CITY – Police were called to Mason City residence after a troubled man was at that location in violation of a protective order.

Chad Martin Bernhardt, age 44, was at a residence in the 500 block of South Penn Avenue Sunday when a person called police to report his presence there. Police arrived and found Bernhardt. In October, a protective order was put in place between Bernhardt and a local woman in a petition for relief from domestic abuse. He is being held on no bond until he sees a judge. Last year, Bernhardt spent 15 days in jail for domestic abuse causing bodily injury after an arrest by Mason City police.

Additionally, Bernhardt was stopped by Mason City police on October 19 for drunk driving, and had been released on bond in that case. He is awaiting a November 19 arraignment. The very next day, Bernhardt was stopped and arrested for drunk driving in Palo Alto county. He is awaiting a court appearance on November 26.
