MADISON – A Colorado woman who was found guilty by a jury of kidnapping after taking her tiny infant nephew to Iowa and leaving him in a duffel bag outside an Iowa gas station will be sentenced today.
Kristen R. Smith, age 31, of Denver, Colorado, was found guilty of kidnapping in Wisconsin after she took her infant nephew from a home there and brought him to Iowa, where he was left at a gas station. Smith was arrested February 6th in Iowa on unrelated charges and was later transported to Wisconsin to face the kidnapping charge.
Smith will be sentenced in a Madison, Wisconsin courtroom Monday and could face up to 25 years in prison. The bay was unharmed in the incident.
