MASON CITY – A woman who was detained at the Hy-Vee West grocery store for stealing has pleaded guilty to a theft charge.
Employees at the Hy-Vee West grocery store, located at 2400 4th Street SW, called police on September 27 to report that they had detained a woman for shoplifting. Police arrived and questioned employees as to the circumstances of the incident. After the investigation, officers arrested 45-year-old Lori Ann Portis of Mason City and charged her with enhanced third degree theft due to her previous theft convictions.
Portis pled guilty to a charge of theft in the fifth degree last week after county prosecutors offered her a plea deal.
