The citizen took a low-resolution cell phone photo and submitted it to police. In a news release, police say it is impossible to tell, for certain, what the creature is.
Officers and animal control went to the area of the sighting Monday morning and found no prints or evidence of the animal, which was spotted in a grassy area. Police say that coyotes and fox have been spotted in Mason City, but this is the first mountain lion report.

Omg!! If you blow the photo up you can tell it’s NOT a mountain lion!!! It’s got a pointed nose and face! It’s black nose is the nose of a DOG, a mountain lions nose is not fully black like a dog and the fur comes over the tip of the nose. This is probably a large yellow lab or other mixed breed yellow dog. Geeesh I think this woman needs her head examined! Or needs glasses!! Anything for attention! She would have been better off saying it was a Martian goat!!
