WASHINGTON – The race for Congress between Steve King and Jim Mowrer is virtually deadlocked, a new poll shows.

The poll, released this week by the SMART-TD’s Iowa Legislative board, asked potential Iowa voters “if the election was held today for U.S. House, for whom would you vote, Jim Mowrer the Democrat or Steve King the Republican?”

King was ahead in the poll, 46% to 43% with 11% unsure. The margin of error in the poll is +/- 5.1%.

“The more Iowa voters know about Jim Mowrer’s record of service, the more they like him,” said Mowrer spokesperson Sam Spencer. “Mowrer’s numbers have a lot of potential for growth as voters continue to get to know Jim Mowrer and learn more about Steve King’s disastrous record in Congress.”

“While King has seen his Congressional salary go up by $20,000, he has voted against raising the minimum wage, he has voted against giving women Equal Pay for Equal Work, and he has voted against bonuses for our troops. This poll shows King is having trouble defending that record.”

In the poll, numbers show that 42% of respondents have a negative view of King, while only 12% had that view of Mowrer.

Iowa Public Television will hold a debate between Mowrer and King on Thursday, October 23 at Buena Vista University Anderson Auditorium in Storm Lake. The hour-long Iowa Press Debate begins at 7 PM in front of a live audience. The program will air live on IPTV’s primary high-definition channel and be streamed online at Iptv.org.

I not sure I would trust this poll

If this is true, that many Iowan’s are voting for yet another left wing loon, Iowa has truly lost it’s way.

@Anonymous-They vote for these left wing loons because they promise them all freebee’s. Of course the working people have to pay for them.

Farmer’s love King because he loves the farm subsidy. Last I checked that was a freebie. King is an embarrassment to Iowa.

@LVS, you have often commented on how much you dislike King’s political stance as being too far left for you. Now, you are a supporter?!?! WOW
