MASON CITY – A Mason City woman struck a light pole this week, causing thousands of dollars in damage to her vehicle.
On Wednesday, October 1 at about 6:24 PM, a Mason City police officer was dispatched to a reportable one vehicle collision at the Southport shopping center parking lot.
At the scene, an NIT reader reported that “I heard a loud ‘BOOM’ and thought ‘what the heck?’ I saw the black SUV against the pole, radiator fluid was gushing onto the ground. A lady was sitting inside it.”
Rhonda Balkenende collided with a light pole while pulling into a parking space in the Southport shopping center parking lot. Balkenende’s vehicle was disabled, and damage was estimated to be $5,000.
Balkenende was not injured in the accident.
